Fucas is a genus of brown algae found in intertidal rocky seashores in temperate regions, especially the Pacific shores of North America.
Fucas goes by the common name Bladderwrack because the plant possesses small air-filled bladders or floatation devices that help keep it close to the surface. It has been commonly used as food and medicine for centuries, particularly in Asian cultures.
It is referred to also as kelp.
Fucas Vesiculosus contains the flavonoid fucoxanthin and is reported to have the greatest antioxidant activity of all the edible seaweeds tested. Fucas is specifically indicated for symptoms of hypothyroidism, obesity (it highly supports metabolism), goiter, exophthalmia, constipation, and flatulence.
Fucas is also an incredible natural source of iodine, which is very important to thyroid function.
And the fucoxanthins are shown to reduce the risk of thyroid and hormonal cancers in general.
Folklore often reports that fucas protects a poorly functioning thyroid from further inflammatory stress. ♡
